About Superfly
Super Fly is Gordon Parks Jr 1972 Harlem story about Youngblood Priest seeking one last score, carried by Curtis Mayfield soundtrack that works as Greek chorus. It earned its budget back many times and set the blaxploitation template with almost no gunfire. Ron ONeal directed himself in the 1973 sequel Super Fly TNT, retiring Priest to Rome then pulling him into African revolution.
The Return of Superfly followed in 1990 and Director X remade the original in June 2018 with Trevor Jackson as Atlanta Priest. Watch the 1972 original first, then the sequels and remake in release order for the Priest arc.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order worth listing. The 1972 original, the 1973 sequel, the 1990 return, and the 2018 remake follow Priest forward or retell his start, so release order and story order are the same list. The Mayfield soundtrack on the original is part of the story voice and best heard before the later music.
