About Swamp Thing
Swamp Thing follows Alec Holland, a scientist turned plant creature after a lab attack in the Louisiana swamp. Wes Craven directed Swamp Thing on February 19, 1982, then The Return of Swamp Thing followed May 11, 1989 with Dick Durock back in the suit. The USA Network series ran 72 episodes from 1990 to 1993.
A five episode animated series aired in 1990 tied to Kenner toys. The DC Universe series ran ten episodes from May 31 to August 2, 2019 with Crystal Reed as Abby Arcane. James Gunn has a DCU Swamp Thing film in development with no date, so the guide stays open.
Good to know
Each version reboots Alec Holland, so watch in release order without hunting for one timeline. The two films pair well as a double feature since Durock plays both. The 1990 live series is standalone and campy, while the 2019 show is horror and cancelled after one season. The animated series is for completists only. Skip to the 2019 show if you want modern effects first.
