About Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre from 1974 follows Sally Hardesty into the Sawyer family's house and stays the high point everything else answers to. Part 2 from 1986 turns the same material into Reagan-era satire, Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III from 1990 keeps that run going, and The Next Generation from 1995 closes the original continuity with an Illuminati twist and early McConaughey and Zellweger.
The 2003 remake restarts with Jessica Biel and got its own prequel with The Beginning in 2006. Three later films each branch differently: Texas Chainsaw 3D from 2013 continues the 1974 film directly, Leatherface from 2017 tells an origin, and the 2022 Netflix film brings back Sally against an older Leatherface. An A24 film and TV series are in the works with no dates.
Good to know
Start with the 1974 original, then pick a branch rather than watching straight through. The original four form one run, the 2003 remake plus Beginning form a second, and the three later films each assume only the original. Texas Chainsaw 3D ignores every sequel, and the 2022 film does the same with Sally returning. The remake continuity is the most consistent of the branches, since it was planned as a pair.
