About Willy Wonka
Willy Wonka began with Dahl's novel about Charlie's golden-ticket tour. The 1971 film stars Gene Wilder with the boat tunnel dread, followed by Depp's 2005 Burton version with the squirrel room. Wonka (2023) from Paul King rewinds to young Willy, played by Timothee Chalamet, earning his shop against the chocolate cartel.
Each version resets the Bucket family and the Oompa staff with no shared timeline, so every film starts clean. Warner Bros. has discussed more Wonka with King returning, though no sequel has been dated, keeping the origin as the current endpoint.
Good to know
Watch the 1971 film first for the classic tour, then the 2005 version as its own factory telling, then Wonka as the origin prequel. The prequel assumes the factory legend without continuing either tour, so it slots last either way. Tom and Jerry's two animated factory films work as kid extras after any version.
