Two films in order.

About Bruce Almighty

Bruce Almighty opened May 23, 2003 from Tom Shadyac about reporter Bruce Nolan getting God powers from Morgan Freeman. It grossed 485 million on 81 million budget with Aniston and Carell as Evan Baxter. Evan Almighty followed June 22, 2007 as spinoff sequel with Carell as congressman building an ark.

Freeman returns as God in both while Carrey does not appear in the second. Stories stand alone with shared God lore, so either works first, but release order shows Baxter growth from rival to lead. No third film has been produced with Brucifer script shelved.

Good to know

Watch Bruce Almighty first for Baxter origin as rival reporter, then Evan Almighty for ark payoff. The first runs 101 minutes with Buffalo news gags, the second runs 96 minutes with flood effects. The sequel cost 175 million and earned less, so expect bigger effects but softer jokes. Both carry PG-13 and PG ratings for language and peril.
