About X Trilogy
X from 2022 follows a 1979 Texas porn shoot that turns violent, introducing Maxine Minx and Pearl as mirror figures. Pearl from 2022 rewinds to 1918 to show how Pearl became who she is, shot back to back with X. MaXXXine from 2024 jumps to 1985 Los Angeles as Maxine chases mainstream fame after surviving X.
Watch in release order: X, Pearl, MaXXXine. West built each film to stand alone, but X first keeps Pearl as a payoff rather than a spoiler. Chronological order works for a second pass, since Pearl gains weight once you know where Maxine ends up.
Good to know
Pearl is a prequel in story years but a sequel in intent, revealing motive that X only hints at. MaXXXine closes the Maxine arc and does not require outside homework. West said in 2024 he is likely done with this run, so the three films form a complete set with no cliffhanger waiting on a fourth entry yet.
