About Zoolander
Zoolander follows dim model Derek Zoolander, brainwashed into assassinating a prime minister at a fashion show. Zoolander 2 reunites Derek and Hansel years later in Rome against Mugatu's renewed scheme, with the fashion world satire intact.
Watch in release order. The sequel is built on callbacks to Derek's look, the gasoline fight and the original's ending, so it plays as a reunion that needs the first film. The fifteen year gap shows on screen, with the sequel leaning harder on cameos, but the story is a straight continuation.
Good to know
Ben Stiller directed and co-wrote both films, with Owen Wilson returning as Hansel and Will Ferrell as Mugatu. The sequel underperformed theatrically, which cooled talk of a third entry. Kristen Wiig and Benedict Cumberbatch join part two, but the core remains Derek and Hansel picking up where 2001 left them.
