About After Life
After Life follows Tony Johnson, a Tambury Gazette writer played by Ricky Gervais, after his wife Lisa dies of cancer. Series 1 from March 2019 sets up his blunt new persona, series 2 from April 2020 pushes him toward being a better friend while the paper faces closure, and series 3 from January 2022 closes the story.
Each series runs six episodes of about 30 minutes, 18 in total. Gervais created, wrote and directed all of them for Netflix with Kerry Godliman, Tom Basden and Penelope Wilton alongside. The show was always planned as a short run, and Gervais confirmed the third series as the last.
