About Altered Carbon
Altered Carbon is set in a future where minds are digitized into stacks and sleeved into new bodies, following the Envoy soldier Takeshi Kovacs across centuries. Season one from 2018 stars Joel Kinnaman solving a murder for the immortal Bancrofts, with Poe's hotel AI stealing every scene across its ten episodes.
Season two from February 2020 recasts Kovacs with Anthony Mackie for eight episodes chasing his lost love Quell, while the anime film Resleeved from March 2020 tells an earlier Kovacs job on Latimer. Netflix cancelled the show that August. Release order works best, since Resleeved assumes you already understand stacks and sleeves.
Good to know
Release order and chronological order genuinely differ here, because the Resleeved film is a prequel set before season one. New viewers should still start with season one. The film drops you into yakuza politics with no explanation of the world, while the series teaches the sleeve concept patiently. Chronological order is listed for rewatches once the rules are clear.
