About American Horror Story
American Horror Story starts a new story every season, from Murder House in 2011 to Delicate in 2023-24, so you can jump in almost anywhere. Seasons 3, 8, 12 and 13 reward having seen earlier ones because they bring back characters, places and cast members, while the first two remain the cleanest way in. Season 13 opened on September 24, 2026 with thirteen episodes running to October 29.
The spin-offs branch off in different directions rather than continuing any AHS plot. American Crime Story covered three real cases between 2016 and 2021, American Horror Stories tells one standalone story per episode, and Grotesquerie was a single 2024 mystery from Ryan Murphy and Niecy Nash. Treat them as extras, not homework.
Good to know
Season 13 reunites Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett and Kathy Bates, with Ryan Murphy directing the premiere. A fourth American Crime Story was announced in 2021, but executive producer Brad Simpson said in September 2024 that nothing was moving, and FX has aired none since Impeachment. American Horror Stories has produced no new episodes since October 2024, and Grotesquerie has not been renewed.
