About Andy Griffith Show
The Andy Griffith Show follows Sheriff Andy Taylor with Opie and Barney in Mayberry. Seasons 1 to 3 run from 1960 in black and white with Knotts stealing shows. Seasons 4 to 5 cover the peak years through 1965 with Helen and Thelma Lou.
Seasons 6 to 8 lose Barney but add Warren and Howard through 1968 in color. Mayberry RFD continues after as a spinoff apart. The episodes never need strict links, so release order strolls the town from jail to courthouse. The whistled theme and courthouse open every show while Opie grows.
Good to know
Watch seasons 1 through 8 in air order since the deputies change over time. Barney leaves after season 5 and color arrives after. Opie grows up across the run proper. Mayberry RFD sits apart as a spinoff. The run is closed after 1968 with no further order needed at all. The ratings crown confirms the peak, so start at season one.
