About Barnaby Jones
Barnaby Jones opened January 1973 as a midseason replacement with Buddy Ebsen as the retired turned active detective in Los Angeles. Season 1 ran 13 episodes to May 1973, with seasons 2 through 5 at 24 each and steady mystery plots.
Season 6 ran 22 episodes, season 7 ran 25, and season 8 ran 22 to April 1980 with the office intact. Lee Meriwether as Betty anchors the office throughout every year. The premiere crosses over with Cannon, plus a two part 1975 case with him. No revival has filmed beyond MeTV reruns from 2019.
Good to know
Watch seasons 1 through 8 in air order from start to finish. The Cannon crossover in the pilot needs no homework but rewards series fans who know Frank Cannon. Cases stand alone weekly, so the order rule is light outside the office lineup changes. The finale ends the agency cleanly with no reunion film after.
