About Black Books
Black Books follows Bernard Black, a misanthropic bookshop owner who hates customers and loves wine, with Manny as his kind assistant and Fran as the friend next door. Across three series the joke stays in the shop on Leigh Street, with each episode a standalone disaster around drink, books or bad plans.
Watch series one through three in air order. Continuity is light, but Manny joins in the first episode and the shop dynamic only makes sense from there. The episodes run about 24 minutes each, so the full 18 make one short sitting by modern sitcom standards.
Good to know
There is no story arc to reorder, since the show resets every episode. Start at the start because Manny's arrival is the premise, and later episodes assume the trio is set. The show ended in 2004 after 18 episodes with no revival. Moran and Linehan's style carries through all three runs, so tone warnings from episode one hold throughout.
