About Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Buffy the Vampire Slayer ran seven seasons and 144 episodes from 1997 to 2003, moving from The WB to UPN for its last two. Angel spun off in October 1999 and ran five seasons to May 2004, following Buffy's ex Angel in Los Angeles. Release order is the recommended watch: the two shows aired side by side from 1999 on, with occasional crossovers.
Viewers who want the full effect can interleave the overlapping years instead: Buffy season 4 with Angel season 1, Buffy 5 with Angel 2, Buffy 6 with Angel 3, and Buffy 7 with Angel 4, then Angel season 5 alone. On a possible continuation: a pilot titled New Sunnydale, directed by Chloe Zhao and co-starring Sarah Michelle Gellar with Ryan Kiera Armstrong as a new slayer, was filmed in 2025, but Hulu passed in March 2026.

Gellar announced Hulu's decision on Instagram on March 14, 2026. No new home for the project was announced as of September 17, 2026, and later cast comments describe it as dead, so treat any revival chatter as rumor.
Dark Horse Comics continued the story in print as Season Eight through Season Twelve (2007 to 2018). The comics are optional and outside this list.
