About Cheers
Cheers aired on NBC from September 1982 to May 1993 across 275 episodes. It follows Sam Malone's Boston bar crew through the Diane Chambers years, the Rebecca Howe era, and the ensemble of Norm, Cliff, Carla, Frasier and Woody. Early seasons ranked low before climbing into the top ten for eight straight years.
The finale drew over 90 million viewers with Sam alone mopping up after last call. Creators Glen and Les Charles closed the bar by choice rather than losing the cast, and the building lives on through the Frasier spinoff rather than any Cheers revival.
