About Dark
Dark is a German-language Netflix series about four families in the town of Winden, where a child's disappearance opens up a time travel mystery running across generations. Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese planned it as a trilogy from the start, and the third season, released on June 27, 2020, closes the story.
The show jumps between years constantly, but that is editing rather than a watch order problem. Each season is written to follow the one before it, and no season can be understood first. There is no rearranged version that makes more sense, so there is a single list below and nothing to compare it against.
Good to know
The three seasons total 26 episodes: 10 in 2017, 8 in 2019 and 8 in 2020, each season dropped on Netflix in one go. The creators' next series, 1899, is a separate story that Netflix cancelled after one season in January 2023, so it is not a Dark sequel and does not belong on this list. Nothing further set in Winden has been announced, and no companion book or recap is needed to follow the story.
