About Alfonso Cuaron
Alfonso Cuaron began with the Mexico City comedy Solo con tu pareja in 1991, then made the English language jump with A Little Princess in 1995 and Great Expectations in 1998. Y Tu Mama Tambien in 2001 brought international attention for its mix of road movie energy and sharp social observation.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in 2004 changed his scale, leading to Children of Men in 2006, Gravity in 2013 and Roma in 2018. The last two each won him the Academy Award for Best Director. Release order is ideal because the films are standalone but show his visual style growing more fluid and ambitious with each step.
Good to know
All eight films are standalone stories, so no chronological reshuffle is needed. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban connects to a larger saga, but Cuaron designed it to work on its own terms. Watch Y Tu Mama Tambien and Roma together for his Mexico centered work, and Children of Men with Gravity for his long take action craft. Great Expectations and A Little Princess pair well as his nineties literary adaptations.
