About Sanctuary
Damian Kindler created Sanctuary around Dr. Helen Magnus, played by Amanda Tapping, a centuries-old physician who shelters Abnormals, creatures with unusual traits, in a hidden Old City facility. The series began as eight webisodes in 2007, then ran as a TV series on Syfy in the US and on Movie Network, Movie Central and Space in Canada from October 3, 2008 to December 30, 2011, totaling 59 TV episodes.
Watch seasons 1 through 4 in broadcast order. The two-part premiere Sanctuary for All reworks the web story, so start there and continue straight through. Season 3 runs 20 episodes and season 4 closes the story in 13.
Good to know
Syfy cancelled the series in May 2012, five months after the season 4 finale. A 2020 rights deal raised talk of a revival, with conflicting press about Tapping's involvement, and no new series had been confirmed as of September 17, 2026. The original eight webisodes were folded into the TV premiere, so they are not listed separately.
