About Defiance
Defiance follows lawkeeper Nolan and his Irathient daughter Irisa in a terraformed St. Louis, juggling Votan politics and human militias. The Syfy series ran 12 episodes from April 2013 alongside Trion's MMO set in the same world.
The second season ran 13 episodes in 2014 and the third 13 in 2015, closing the Ark-brain saga before cancellation. The show and game shared events without depending on each other. Watch the three seasons in order. The town's alliances rewire every finale, which only reads in sequence.
Good to know
Air order is story order. Each season ends with Defiance under new management, and the next opens in the wreckage, so skipping ahead strands the politics. The MMO tie-in added flavor but shut down in 2021, and none of it is required. The 38 episodes close their saga properly despite the cancellation.
