About A Different World

A Different World started as Denise Huxtable's Hillman College years, then rebuilt around Whitley and Dwayne into NBC's landmark Black-college sitcom. Six seasons ran 144 episodes from September 1987 to July 1993, tackling race, class and campus life head-on.

A sequel series premiered September 24, 2026 with ten episodes, returning to Hillman a generation later as a returning series. Watch the original six seasons first for the full Whitley and Dwayne arc, then the sequel. The new show assumes the college's legacy without retelling it.
