About Dreaming Whilst Black
Dreaming Whilst Black follows Kwabena, an aspiring British-Jamaican filmmaker stuck in temp work while pitching his passion project. Friends Amy, Vanessa and his cousin Hayden pull him between weddings, funerals and set jobs. The BBC series aired two series from 2023 to 2024.
Series 1 establishes Kwabena's debt, his mum's expectations and the failed short-film launch. Series 2 moves into festival rejections and a Jamaica trip that tests his identity story. Jokes about funding applications and family group chats recur without re-explanation. Watching in order shows how small wins in series 1 enable the bigger swings of series 2.
Good to know
Watch series one then series two. The comedy is serial, with relationships and money troubles carrying across episodes. Later chapters reference earlier auditions and temp shifts by name. There is no alternate order, since the filmmaking career only moves forward. New viewers should start at the pilot to meet the core four before the extended family appears.
