About Generation Kill

Generation Kill premiered July 13, 2008 on HBO as seven episodes from David Simon and Ed Burns, adapting Evan Wright 2004 reports and book. Stars Alexander Skarsgard as Sgt. Brad Colbert, James Ransone as Cpl. Josh Ray Person and Lee Tergesen as Wright, with Sgt. Antonio Espera and Lt. Nathaniel Fick leading Bravo Company. First Recon Marines drive Humvees north from Kuwait during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Episodes track rules of engagement, Nasiriyah fighting, friendly airstrikes, civilian deaths, supply gaps and Baghdad arrival through the August 24, 2008 finale. Filmed in South Africa and Mozambique with Marine advisors for radio and convoy work. Watch 1 through 7 in order, since release order follows the invasion route and each stop explains later fatigue and command disputes.

Good to know

Watch episodes 1 through 7 straight, since squad assignments, call signs and vehicle crews carry forward and skipping breaks who rides where. The book adds Wright commentary and Fick memoir confirms key incidents, but no separate chronological order exists. Treat the seven as one finished miniseries with no second season, focused on enlisted experience rather than strategy briefings.
