About Inside No. 9
Inside No. 9 (2014 to 2024) is nine series of standalone anthology episodes from Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, each set behind a door numbered nine: farces, ghost stories, live broadcasts and one episode performed entirely in silence. The only continuity is the number.
Watch in broadcast order: later episodes reward viewers who know the show's tricks, and a few sequels to earlier episodes land only with setup. Highlights cluster around the live Halloween special Dead Line, the silent A Quiet Night In, and the final series' lap of honor. The 2024 ninth series was announced as the last.
Good to know
Anthology means total freedom of entry: skeptics can start with the famous episodes (12 Days of Christine, The Riddle of the Sphinx, Dead Line) before committing to the run. A couple of episodes got follow-ups years later, which is the one argument for broadcast order. The stage show that followed the finale continues the spirit but is not television. The duo's earlier Psychoville shares DNA and makes a fine next watch.
