IT: Welcome to Derry is HBO's prequel to the 2017 and 2019 IT films, set in 1962 Derry as a new cycle of child disappearances starts. Season 1 ran eight weekly episodes October 26 to December 14, 2025 on HBO and Max, with Bill Skarsgard back as Pennywise. The season works standalone, though the Bradley gang and Black Spot history land harder with the films known.
HBO renewed it August 17, 2026. Season 2 moves back to 1935 around the Bradley Gang massacre, with a planned third run set in 1908. Creators describe a three season backwards arc, but only season 2 is ordered. No premiere date is set.
Good to know
Watch season 1 first, then the 1935 season when it lands. The show runs backwards through Derry history on purpose, 1962, then 1935, then a planned 1908, so release order preserves the intended reveals. Season 3 is a stated plan, not a renewal, and stays out of the list until HBO orders it. The two Warner films slot before the series in story time but are not required viewing.
