About Luther
Luther runs five series from 2010 to 2019 with twenty episodes tracking DCI John Luther and Alice Morgan's entanglement from her parents' murder onward. The Fallen Sun film in 2023 continues with Luther imprisoned against Serkis's killer, streaming on Netflix after cinemas. A second film under the Luther 3 working title was announced in November 2025 with no date.
Release order is story order: each series assumes Alice's status from the last, and the film assumes the series 5 ending directly. Alice's apparent deaths and returns only track in air order. The international remakes and the Calling novel stay outside the path as alternates.
Good to know
Watch series 1 to 5, then Fallen Sun. Alice appears, vanishes and returns across the run in ways only air order explains, especially the Antwerp drowning fake-out before series 5. The film opens with Luther already fallen, which needs series 5 seen. Luther 3 has a working title but no cameras, so the film stays the current endpoint until it dates.
