About Modern Family

Modern Family tracks Jay, his kids Claire and Mitchell, and their partners across 250 episodes on ABC from 2009 to 2020. Phil and Claire raise three kids, Mitchell and Cam adopt Lily then Luke sided chaos aside, and Jay and Gloria bridge the age gap with Manny and Joe. Talking heads frame each episode but the story stays linear.

No revival has been ordered, and the two part finale was shot as a close with the houses splitting apart. Watch in broadcast order since birthdays, graduations and job changes stack year to year. Later seasons reuse early running gags, so jumping in mid run dulls the payoff.

Good to know

Broadcast order is the only order that works, since the kids grow from grade school to college on screen. Haley, Alex and Luke change most, and Manny to Joe shift the Jay and Gloria house. The show stays episodic week to week, but finales move everyone forward a year. Treat season 11 as the planned end, with the finale splitting the three homes rather than resetting them.
