About Moonlighting
Moonlighting pairs ex model Maddie Hayes with detective David Addison at Blue Moon Investigations. Season 1 from March 1985 is a short six episode start, season 2 from 1985 builds the banter, and season 3 from 1986 is the acclaimed peak. Season 4 from 1987 splits the leads through schedules and pregnancy plots, and season 5 from late 1988 closes quickly to May 1989.
Glenn Gordon Caron created the ABC mix of mystery, comedy and romance. Bruce Willis won an Emmy in 1987 before Die Hard pulled him toward film. The show landed on Hulu in 2023 after music rights delays. Cases are weekly but the romance arc only works straight through.
Good to know
Watch seasons 1 through 5 in order, since the David and Maddie relationship resets and ruptures carry forward every year. Expect fourth wall breaks and stylized episodes alongside normal cases. The Hulu run from 2023 keeps it available. The May 1989 finale closed Blue Moon for good, and no revival has aired.
