About Jigarthanda
Jigarthanda from 2014 follows film maker Karthik forced to shoot gangster Sethu in Madurai. Siddharth and Bobby Simha lead with a movie inside a movie turn. Jigarthanda DoubleX from 2023 steps back to the 1970s with Raghava Lawrence and S J Suryah as a new gangster and filmmaker pair.
DoubleX works as a prequel in time but was made second, so release and story orders differ. This guide recommends release order first to keep the 2014 twist safe. Chronological order flips them for a straight 1970s to 2010s line. New viewers can start with the first entry for the cleanest introduction.
Good to know
Two orders exist because DoubleX is a period prequel to the modern original. Release order keeps the 2014 film twist unspoiled before the 1970s backstory. Chronological order starts in the 1970s with DoubleX then moves to Madurai in 2014. Both films run over 170 minutes with music central. Start with release order unless you prefer one straight decade line. No third film is announced.
