About Narcos
Narcos ran for three seasons on Netflix, tracing Pablo Escobar's Medellin cartel across seasons 1 and 2 before shifting to the Cali cartel in season 3. Narcos: Mexico followed as a companion series about Miguel Felix Gallardo and the Guadalajara cartel.
Release order is the recommended path. Mexico grew out of what would have been Narcos season 4, and its story overlaps in time with the Colombia years, so watching in airdate order keeps crossovers and callbacks in their intended context.
Good to know
Netflix confirmed in July 2018 that the planned fourth season would instead launch as Narcos: Mexico. Mexico season 1 opens in the early 1980s, years before the Escobar story ends, so a strict in-story chronology would shuffle the two shows; the timelines overlap too much for that to help. No new Narcos or Narcos: Mexico season had been announced as of 2026-09-17.
