Open All Hours aired on the BBC from 1976 to 1985, with Ronnie Barker as miserly grocer Albert Arkwright and David Jason as nephew Granville. It grew from a 1973 Seven of One pilot into 26 episodes across four series, and finished as a fixture of British comedy schedules with nurse Gladys Emmanuel in pursuit.
Still Open All Hours revived the shop on BBC One from 2013 to 2019, with an older Granville running the store with his son and familiar faces returning. Roy Clarke wrote every episode of both runs. Watch the original first, then the sequel, since Granville's promotion only makes sense that way.
Good to know
Release order and story order are the same list, so no alternate chronology is needed. The 2013 Christmas special launches the sequel and leads straight into its six series. One caveat: the BBC commissioned a seventh series that never filmed, then confirmed cancellation in 2023, so the 2019 finale stands as the endpoint. Continuity is light and each episode stands alone.
