About Reply

Reply is an anthology from director Shin Won-ho about friends, family and first loves in Korea. Reply 1997 follows Busan high school fans in the H.O.T. era. Reply 1994 follows boarding house students in Seoul. Reply 1988 follows five families on one Ssangmun street.

Release order runs 1997, then 1994, then 1988, which is the reverse of the calendar years in the titles. The trilogy shares cameos and the husband mystery structure, so release order shows how the format grows into the quieter 1988 finale.

Good to know

Release order is recommended for first viewing. Timeline order would run 1988, then 1994, then 1997, but it spoils the cameos and starts with the slowest, longest season. Each story stands alone, so you can sample one, yet the finales land better when seen in release sequence. Cameo appearances cross over, so the jokes pay off in the order viewers first saw them.
