About Rescue Me
Rescue Me aired on FX from July 2004 to September 2011 with 93 episodes across seven seasons. It follows FDNY firefighter Tommy Gavin, played by Denis Leary, haunted by fallen cousins while wrecking his marriage and crew. Seasons build through the 9/11 anniversary episodes, the French journalist romance, the disabled-son custody fight and the rebuilt house finale.
Leary and Peter Tolan ended it by plan with Tommy sober-ish and the 62 Truck intact. No revival has been ordered, leaving the finale as the intended close for the post-9/11 firefighter story rather than a network cut.
Good to know
Watch one through seven in broadcast order, since the ghost visits and the family deaths compound every season. The show mixes bleak drama with bar humor, so expect the tone swings as designed rather than uneven writing. Tommy's sobriety resets repeatedly, which frustrates some viewers but tracks the show's honest addiction arc.
