About Riverdale
Riverdale ran seven seasons and 137 episodes on The CW from January 2017 to August 2023, starting as a murder mystery around Jason Blossom and growing stranger each year. Season 4 was cut short by COVID at 19 episodes, with leftover scripts opening season 5 before a five year jump.
Season 6 opens with a five episode Rivervale alternate universe event, then returns to canon. Season 7 sends the gang to the 1950s and ends the saga. The spinoffs Katy Keene and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina share a creator and cross over lightly, but Riverdale itself needs no outside viewing.
Good to know
Watch seasons 1 through 7 in order. The Rivervale episodes look like a detour but set up the powers that drive seasons 6 and 7, so do not skip them. Katy Keene follows Josie to New York and Sabrina nods from Greendale, but both are optional extras. No revival has been announced as of September 2026.
