About The Rockford Files
Backlash of the Hunter aired March 1974 as the pilot for ex con PI Jim Rockford, played by James Garner from a trailer office. Season 1 ran 23 episodes from September 1974, with seasons 2 through 5 at 22 each and season 6 at 12 ending January 1980.
Eight reunion films aired on CBS from 1994 to 1999, from I Still Love L.A. through If It Bleeds It Leads, catching Rockford older but still working cases. A 2009 NBC remake pilot with Dermot Mulroney never aired, and film plans stalled after Garner death in 2014.
Good to know
Watch the pilot, then seasons 1 through 6, then the eight reunion films. The films assume the series friendships with Rocky, Angel and Beth, so they play flat without them. Cases stand alone week to week, which means casual viewers can sample, but first timers should keep season order for the running life details.
