About Shadowhunters
Shadowhunters ran three seasons and 55 episodes on Freeform from January 2016 to May 2019, following Clary Fairchild learning she hunts demons. Season 2 splits into two tens across 2017, and season 3 runs 22 episodes with two extra finale episodes added after cancellation.
The 2013 film City of Bones with Lily Collins adapts the same books but was cancelled after one entry. The show recasts everyone and restarts the story, so there is no continuity between them. Watch the series 1 through 3 in order. The film is an optional curiosity, not a prequel.
Good to know
There is no chronological split for this show. Every season follows the last, so release order is story order. The film came first in real time but tells the same opening chapters with different actors, so watching it before the show only spoils the pilot. The series ends closed in 2019 with no revival announced.
