About Shardlake
Shardlake follows lawyer Matthew Shardlake in 1536 as Thomas Cromwell sends him to Scarnsea monastery to confirm a murder and protect the dissolution case. All four episodes arrived May 1, 2024, adapted by Stephen Butchard and directed by Justin Chadwick. Arthur Hughes plays Shardlake with Anthony Boyle as Jack Barak.
The story covers one case across four hours, ending where the novel Dissolution ends. Disney confirmed on January 17, 2025 that a second series adapting Dark Fire will not proceed, so this four part run is complete.
Good to know
Watch episodes 1 to 4 in release order. The plot moves forward day by day with no flashback structure to reorder around. Episode 1 sets the commission and the first death, episodes 2 and 3 work the suspects inside the monastery, episode 4 names the killer and closes the case. Later Sansom novels remain unadapted, so nothing else needs placing.
