About The Alienist
The Alienist follows Dr Laszlo Kreizler, illustrator John Moore and Sara Howard in 1890s New York. Season 1 aired January to March 2018 across 10 episodes about murdered boy prostitutes, with Theodore Roosevelt as police commissioner. Angel of Darkness aired July to August 2020 across 8 episodes, with Sara running a detective agency on a missing infant case.
TNT billed the second run as a sequel series from the same cast, adapting The Angel of Darkness novel. Sara leads more of the 2020 story, while Kreizler and Moore return, so season 1 groundwork pays off directly in season 2 interrogations and press threads.
Good to know
Release order is book order and story order, with one year passing in fiction between the cases. There is no third season, since TNT closed the run in 2020 and the team moved on. Watch the 10 episode first season fully before the 8 episode second, since Sara agency setup assumes the 1896 team trust.
