About The Office UK
The UK Office is the original mockumentary sitcom created, written and directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant for the BBC. Gervais stars as David Brent, manager of the Slough branch of paper merchant Wernham Hogg, alongside Martin Freeman as Tim Canterbury and Mackenzie Crook as Gareth Keenan. Series 1 aired on BBC Two in July and August 2001 and Series 2 followed in autumn 2002.
The story closes with a two-part Christmas special on BBC One on 26 and 27 December 2003, which resolves the Tim and Dawn romance and Brent's fall from management. Gervais and Merchant ruled out a third series, so these fourteen episodes are the complete run and the definitive starting point of the franchise.
Good to know
Release order and story order are the same list, so watch Series 1, Series 2, then the Christmas specials with nothing skipped. This guide covers only the UK original and is separate from the-office-watch-order, which covers the US remake with its nine NBC seasons and The Paper spin-off. The US version reuses the setup but tells its own story, so treat the two as distinct versions rather than one long sequence.
