About The Pretender

The Pretender (1996 to 2000) follows Jarod, a genius raised by the Centre, through four seasons of assumed identities and weekly rescues, with Sydney and Miss Parker circling his past. The show serializes the Centre mythology while keeping episodes standalone.

Two TV films (2001) continue past the series finale: The Pretender 2001 and Island of the Haunted, which end on yet another cliffhanger the planned series never resolved. Watch all four seasons then the films in order. The novels continue the story for devotees, but television ends at Island of the Haunted.

Good to know

The series finale and both films each end on cliffhangers, which defines the fan experience: brilliant setup, no payoff. The show's premise engine (new identity weekly) keeps every season accessible, so the mythology is the only chaining element. Revival talk has persisted for decades without filming. The 2001 films are essential rather than optional, since they continue the finale directly.
