About Vera
Vera follows DCI Vera Stanhope with sergeants Joe, Aiden, Kenny and Ellis across Northumberland. Series 1 from 2011 sets Vera’s blunt style across 4 feature stories. Later series keep 4 to 6 cases each year with coast and moor motives.
Series 14 from 2025 closes the run with Vera’s farewell after Brenda Blethyn’s exit. Ann Cleeves books feed the early cases, then TV originals take over. No new series was ordered after the farewell, so the 14 series form a closed run rather than an open procedural.
Good to know
Cases can be sampled, but watch the sergeant handovers in order. Joe to Aiden to Kenny to Ellis changes only make sense in sequence over years. Start with any early case to test Vera’s tone, then take the rest in order. Series 14 works as the planned end, so save it for last. Treat the show as complete.
