About Air Gear
Air Gear turns inline skates into flying war machines: Itsuki Minami gets humiliated, discovers the high-tech Air Trecks, and builds the Kogarasumaru team to climb the Parts War. Toei's 25-episode 2006 series adapts the early manga with a famously anime-original ending.
The three-episode OVA Break on the Sky from 2010 ignores that ending and adapts the manga's Sleeping Forest confrontation faithfully instead. Watch the TV series first for the characters and the ride, then the OVAs as the truer continuation. The manga's 37 volumes go far beyond both, so the anime as a whole is a highlight reel rather than the complete story.
Good to know
The TV ending is anime-original because the manga was still early in 2006, so do not expect it to match the OVAs or the books. Break on the Sky adapts middle volumes directly and assumes you know the team, which is why series-first is the order. Fan service is baked into the source material at a level that surprises new viewers: that is the manga, not the adaptation exaggerating. No further anime has been announced.
