About Akudama Drive
Akudama Drive is an original cyberpunk anime from Too Kyo Games and Studio Pierrot. Kazutaka Kodaka drafted the story, Tomohisa Taguchi directed, with Rui Komatsuzaki designs. After a Kanto Kansai war splits Japan, Kansai criminals called Akudama take a train heist job. An unnamed woman gets swept in and takes the name Swindler.
Twelve episodes aired October 8 to December 24, 2020 after a COVID delay from July. The crew of Courier, Brawler, Hacker, Doctor, Hoodlum, Cutthroat and Swindler runs a single job that keeps mutating. No second season or film followed, so the twelve episodes are the full story.
Good to know
Watch episodes 1 through 12 in order. Names are roles, not given names, which keeps the fairy tale tone. Hacker sacrifice in the late run only lands if you have seen the train build. The finale resolves the children thread and closes the crew arc. Start at episode 1, the premiere sets every rule in twenty minutes. Content runs TV-MA for violence.
