About Captain Tsubasa
Captain Tsubasa adapts Yoichi Takahashi's soccer manga about Tsubasa Ozora rising from Nankatsu to the world stage. The original aired 128 episodes from 1983 to 1986, J ran 47 episodes in 1994 to 1995, Road to 2002 aired 52 in 2001 to 2002, and the 2018 remake covered the school arcs across two seasons to 2019. Junior Youth Arc aired 39 episodes from 2023 to 2024 with the international tournament.
The manga continues the Rising Sun Olympics arc past the anime with no new season dated as of 2026. Each remake resets the art while keeping the overhead shots and the drive-shot physics intact across generations.
Good to know
New viewers should start with the 2018 remake, since it retells the school arcs cleanly in modern animation across two seasons. Then continue into the Junior Youth Arc for the tournament payoff. The 1983 original and J reward longtime fans with the full history but demand far more episodes for the same story beats.
