About Code Geass
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion told Lelouch vi Britannia's story across two TV seasons, 50 episodes from October 2006 to September 2008, and that remains the core of the franchise. Around it sit five Akito the Exiled OVAs released from 2012 to 2016, and a three-film recap of the series released across 2017 and 2018.
The recap films are not just a summary: they alter how the TV series ends, which is why the sequel film Lelouch of the Re;surrection, February 2019, follows them instead of R2. Rozé of the Recapture, four theatrical chapters in 2024 and a 12-episode cut, continues from there. A new series, Hoshi Oi no Aspal, was announced in December 2025.
Good to know
The two lists diverge at the recap films. Watching R1, R2 and then Re;surrection works, but it carries one continuity wrinkle the films were built to smooth over; the movie timeline exists for viewers who want the sequels without it. Akito the Exiled is set between R1 and R2 and is optional in either list.
