About Detroit Metal City
Detroit Metal City OVA ran 12 short episodes on DVD from August 2008 at Studio 4C about pop fan Negishi fronting the death metal band as Krauser on stage. The shorts keep to gig and humiliation plots with bandmates.
The live action film arrived August 2008 from Toshio Lee with Kenichi Matsuyama and Rosa Kato on the same setup, premiering at TIFF Midnight Madness to crowds cheering loudly. The manga ran 2005 to 2010 in 10 volumes and finished fully. A DS game was cancelled and no sequel is announced.
Good to know
Watch the OVA, then the film in that order, or reverse without loss since both retell the same joke setup fully. The OVA stays closer to manga gags while the film expands the concert run on stage. Both end without continuing the manga close at all. Either version shows the Krauser split fully in under two hours plus shorts.
