About Gainax
Gainax opened with Gunbuster in 1988 about Noriko piloting against exile. Nadia followed in 1990 with sea steampunk, then Kare Kano in 1998 as a school romance. FLCL arrived in 2000 with Naota and Haruko robots from heads.
Mahoromatic came in 2001 as a maid run, Gurren Lagann in 2007 as the drill heaven epic, and Panty and Stocking in 2010 as the angel punk close. The studio went bankrupt in 2024, so the run is closed. Release order shows the fan house peaking then scattering. The bankruptcy files close the studio tale while Trigger carries the staff.
Good to know
Watch oldest to newest since each crew resets its world. Gunbuster and Gurren pair as the Anno Imaishi mecha bookends. Kare Kano suits romance nights while FLCL wants loud focus. The studio closed after 2010s work, so Panty stays last with no further order needed at all. The fan polls confirm the peak, so give Gurren full attention.
