About Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation
Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation follows Wei Wuxian, once feared as the Yiling Patriarch, who returns to life thirteen years after his death and reunites with Lan Wangji to investigate a series of attacks linked to his past. The donghua adapts Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's novel across three seasons that aired from 2018 to 2021.
The first season establishes the present-day mystery and intercuts long flashbacks to the leads' youth. The second and third seasons stay closer to the present timeline and resolve the dismembered-arm case. A short chibi spinoff called Mo Dao Zu Shi Q retells jokes from the main story and is fully optional after finishing the three main seasons.
Good to know
Release order matches story order for practical purposes. The first season jumps between past and present by design, and trying to watch all flashbacks first would spoil the mystery reveals that make the present-day investigation work. Watch seasons one through three in order, then try the Q shorts only if you want light extras. The live-action Untamed tells the same core story in a separate continuity and is not part of this animated sequence.
