About Hajime no Ippo
Hajime no Ippo adapts George Morikawa's boxing manga about Ippo Makunouchi rising from bullied teen to featherweight contender. Season one aired 75 episodes from 2000 to 2002 from Madhouse, covering the rookie arcs. New Challenger aired 26 episodes in 2009, and Rising aired 25 episodes from 2013 to 2014 with the Date and Alf title fights.
The Champion Road film (2003) and Mashiba vs Kimura OVA (2003) slot between seasons around the JBC arcs. The manga continues past 140 volumes with no fourth season announced as of 2026, leaving Ippo's comeback to print only.
Good to know
Watch season one, Champion Road, the OVA, then New Challenger and Rising in order, since the gym hierarchy and title lineage assume sequence. The 75-episode first season looks long but paces like three modern cours back to back. To continue past the anime, pick up the manga around the retirement chapters where Rising closes.
