About Hideaki Anno
Hideaki Anno broke through with Gunbuster in 1988, a six part OVA about space pilots. Nadia The Secret of Blue Water followed in 1990, then Neon Genesis Evangelion in 1995 with 26 TV episodes and The End of Evangelion in 1997. Kare Kano arrived in 1998.
The Rebuild run restaged the story as four films: 1.0 in 2007, 2.0 in 2009, 3.0 in 2012 and 3.0 plus 1.0 in 2021. Shin Godzilla in 2016 and Shin Kamen Rider in 2023 are live action and sit outside this anime list but show where his craft went. Watch the anime in release order.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order worth listing, since the Rebuild films retell rather than continue the TV story. Watch the 1995 series plus End of Evangelion before the Rebuilds, or the new films lose their contrast. Gunbuster and Nadia stand alone. A new Evangelion series with Yoko Taro writing was announced with no date, so this list holds until it airs.
