About Hikaru no Go
Hikaru no Go follows Hikaru Shindo guided by ghost Sai through Go clubs to pro exams with rival Akira Toya. The TV series runs 75 episodes from 2001 to 2003 through school, insei and pro debut arcs. The Hokuto Cup special from 2004 pits Japan youth against China and Korea across one feature chapter.
Watch the series first since the special assumes pro ranks and Sai fate. The manga by Hotta and Obata ends near the same cup point, so readers finish close after episode 75. No sequel anime has been dated, which leaves the TV plus special as the set.
Good to know
Broadcast order is story order with the special as coda. Early episodes teach Go rules through Hikaru losses, so give it ten episodes before pro exam pace locks. Sai arc resolves inside the TV run, which the special then tests without him. Treat Hokuto Cup as the planned close with the rivalry settled and no further anime pending.
