About Hikaru no Go
Hikaru Shindo finds a haunted go board in his grandfather's attic and becomes the vessel for Fujiwara-no-Sai, a Heian-era master obsessed with reaching the divine move. Studio Pierrot's 75-episode series aired on TV Tokyo from October 2001 to March 2003 and follows Hikaru from casual Sai-assisted wins to a genuine rivalry with prodigy Akira Toya. Yumi Hotta and Takeshi Obata's manga ran to 2003.
The New Year Special (January 1, 2002) is a 24-minute recap that fits between episodes 12 and 13. The Hokuto Cup special (January 3, 2004, 77 minutes) adapts the start of the Japan-China-Korea junior tournament arc, covering the Japanese qualifiers. It stops before the tournament itself, so readers who want the payoff need the manga's final chapters.
